Movie Music, Songs Or Soundtracks Used As A Theme
76
Its all about the movie.....and the music
Ahhhhh, cinema...... How many times has one walked out after seeing a film and felt the lift of the music. Remember Rocky? How did you feel after that music? Like one could take on the world. What about Raiders Of The Lost Ark? Star Wars (come on, how many of you have the 'Imperial Death March' as a ring tone?)
There are also songs or theme music that you instantly recognize as soon as you hear it, you know straight away what film and sometimes exactly which part of the film it played in. Want to try something a little different? Play a movie on your DVD player and play a section that has the 'crescendo' or important song playing for that part of the film, only this time, watch the film without any sound playing (if you have multi-channel sound, let the voices play for dialogue, but no music). Now, does the film come across a little different for you?
I know for me, a movie that is great in my view also has that magic with the music, the theme or the songs also being vital for the film.
Alrighty then, lets take a look through and relive or remember the great music or soundtrack themes that DO make most movies a reason to 'watch'. These are in no particular order or preference.
Aliens 1986 Trailer
Ahhhhhh, the build up of the music in this film is intense, especially the fight between the Colonial Marines and the Aliens in the nest. The continual rising crescendo in the film just rises and rises.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Ahhhhhhh yes, strap on those boots, throw on that Fedora, and crack that whip! John Williams hot hot theme for Raiders started a memory that would span four Indiana Jones films.
Superman 1978
Big Band, Orchestral......Ah Yes, its gotta be the first Superman film.....How many times do we hum the sound of the opening with da da de da, daaaa daaaa daaaa for this theme song for the first film? I know I was humming it for a week. Again, another John Williams hit (he was prolific with these movie themes in the 1970's and 1980's!!!)
Romper Stomper
1992 Romper Stomper, an Australian version of a film similar to American History X, has many songs in the film, yet it is the rise and fall of the Tuba sound that makes this film even more disturbing.
The James Bond Theme
I am tapping my foot listening to this theme as I write about it here. Is there any music or soundtrack piece more iconic than the Theme for James Bond??? (If there is let me know and tell me in the comments section at the bottom!!)
Interlude Part I
DRAMATIC LOOK - KILL BILL REMIX - CHIPMUNK/PRAIREDOG
This absolutely slayed me the first time I saw this on Youtube, but it uses a great musical piece from the film Kill Bill 1.
Jaws
This music inspired a generation to NOT to get into the waters at the beach.
A Nightmare On Elm Street
OOOOOOOOOOOOH, One, Two , Freddys Coming For You, Three, Four, Better Lock Your Door, is this theme putting chills up and down your spine yet?????
Flash
Flash Gordon, a film that was a remake, rehashed kitschy garbage, but had an incredible soundtrack from the Legendary band - Queen. This is the theme song for the film
The Lost Boys
What a great film, it had the two Corey's , Corey Haim & Corey Feldman and a teenage blood suckin vamp before he was Jack Bauer - Keifer Sutherland.
This film had one of the best songs ever written for a film - the extremely haunting and chilling number - Cry Little Sister (Thou Shall Not Fall)
Interlude Part II
Dr Who - One of the worlds oldest and longest running TV shows. Yes I know it's not a movie (although one for the cinemas was made, it was awful). It does deserve special mention. As an interlude, I came across this Youtube clip as someone has painstakingly put together the opening theme music from the show from all eras (11 I think at last count), from the original 1960 up to 2009. Enjoy Sci-Fi fans.
The Terminator
Another huge huge theme song, this is the film that essentially turned the 'Governator' into a movie icon. This is the opening theme music, very industrial, very metallic & mechanical and very modern sounding. One of my personal favorites.
The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
Classic spaghetti western - contains Clint Eastwood, some settling of accounts with bandits may occur. Nuff said
The Great Escape
This is a genuine bona fide movie classic with added awesomeness, no other film has the stellar cast, acting and oomph that this 1963 masterpiece had. If you have never seen this film, go and put it on your 50 films to watch before I die list NOW. Oh, here is the opening theme.
Gonna Fly Now
.....is the name for the Rocky Theme. But I bet you knew that already, didn't you :)
Titanic
Well, I better at least put up one for the gals, otherwise I may get lynched and wake up one morning and find my prostate rearranged. Up until the release of Avatar, the main and most popular song from the biggest film in history. Its by some Canadian chic I believe..... Celine someone........ :)
Not Yet A Final Note...
I will most likely come back and add to this, but will 'fill in' with those three popular theme pieces from a small film made in 1977........ cue film below.
Until the return......Enjoy
