The very first Dark Knight Rises Trailer
The Dark Knight Rises Makes Some Of Us Busy
I will say that Chris Nolan and Chris Bale are certainly going to be two very busy guys over the next couple of years.
Chris Nolan is also co-writing
the script for the next Superman installment as well as Executive Producing.
But will direct this installment of Batman first. No he is not directing the Superman sequel that is being done by Zack Snyder whom directed 300, Watchmen & Suckerpunch.
Christian Bale will at some stage also rejoin the Director McG for a Terminator Sequel, which means with Bale playing Batman again, Terminator 5 will probably be 2013 or 2014 on release (this of itself may or may not happen as Chris Bale has expressed although signed on for at least another two films, producers may need to sell the rights due to Terminator:Salvation's poor Box Office results)
Story Elements And What We Know So Far
So, there are some surprises about this film with the following information.
Both Chris Bale and Nolan, have stated in the past they both do not want a Robin character, so no Batman and Robin this time around.
The most likely main antagonist for Batman will be Edward Nygma AKA The Riddler - Hot favourite to play him is Johnny Depp. Most likely actor to play him is Tom Hardy, yes I know your saying who is Tom Hardy? He appeared in Star Trek Nemesis, Layer Cake and most recently in Inception. Other actors considered for the Riddler role were Doug Jones (Hellboy 1 & 2), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception), David Tennant (Dr Who), Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser MD & How I Met Your Mother), Michael C. Hall (Gamer, 6 Feet Under & Dexter ), Hugh Laurie (House), Leonardo DiCaprio and James Franco. Other news from Chris Nolan on the 27th Oct 2010 suggests that the Riddler will not make an appearance. We will have to await for confirmation of who is the next villain to be confirmed for the movie.
There will be no return of The Joker, there will also be no Penguin or Mr Freeze. There is a possibility that again, Scarecrow could reappear.
This will be the last filmed installment by Christopher Nolan (so another director may pickup a fourth sequel in the future)
Cinematographer Wally Pfister wants to shoot this film in a format that will be compatible for IMAX screens and both Pfister & Nolan, do not want to shoot this feature in 3D.
The main plot is unknown.
Currently in pre-production and filming to commence in April 2011.

Watch for further developments since the Spiderman reboot for Sony Entertainment and Marvel comics is destined for release two weeks prior to the DC Comics based Batman of the next installment, The Dark Knight Rises.
Over the course of 2011 both DC and Marvel comics are releasing a slew of films based on their ever growing stables of heroes and villains. But Batman and Spiderman are two heavyweights, an outcome to be decided by the worldwide movie going public.

19th January 2011.
It is now confirmed that Chris Nolan is putting forward that Anne Hathaway (as seen in The Devil Wears Prada) will be on board for the character of Selena Kyle........aka Cat Woman.
It also seems that Nolan is keeping with now (and suggesting this is something of a tradition with these current Batman flicks of having more than one villain) having Tom Hardy (Inception) on board, not as the Riddler, but as Bane.
Bane was introduced into the comic world in 1993 and is super strong and a very intelligent individual, he is also one character that broke Batman back in one story arc (in the comics).

3rd February 2011.
It's now also news and for some no surprise that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (last seen in Nolan's Inception) will play a role in the new film. What will his role be? The Joker? No, let us at least conclude that for these films, this was Heath Ledger's finest mark on acting and leave it at that. The Riddler? again, all conjecture as at one time of speculation, Johnny Depp was at the forefront (more like fans wishing for wishing he is) for this.
What will Joseph's role be? Well speculation through the inter webs is rife that Joseph is the chosen one for playing the Riddler.......but again, we will all have to wait with baited breath, hanging on our tenderhooks for the wispiest of gossip (confirmed) to read what his role, will indeed, be.

Well for those whom are very well informed, we now know that Tom Hardy is playing Bane. The South American villain who in the comic series at least, broke Batmans back after a fight between the two.
It is also now known that Selena Kyle aka Catwoman will also be portrayed by Anne Hathaway.

9th October2011.
It looks like Liam Neeson may be back to appear as Ra's Al Ghul (possibly in a flashback sequence) and there is rumor also that Cillian Murphy also in a flashback sequence will return as The Scarcrow.
It is confirmed since the beginning and one can see in the trailer that Gary Oldman is still back as Commissioner Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Michael Caine as Alfred.
Animated still - depiction of BANE
Tom Hardy has a couple of pics out doing the rounds on the internet showing his portrayal as Bane. Surely soon there will be more pics to come as Warber Bros gets closer to promoting the film more.
