Walt Disney Pictures Presents - The Sequel to the cult classic - Tron: Legacy

Alan Bradley, current Executive Consultant of ENCOM and Tron, arrives to see Kevin's son Sam to relay a strange message. Kevin Flynn mysteriously disappeared 21 years ago and Alan tells Sam he receives this page from Flynn's arcade, the only problem is the number has been disconnected for 20 years.

Sam tells Alan that he suggests that he see his dad still working at the arcade who would apologize with 'Hey, kiddo sorry, lost track of time', for which Alan replies 'wouldn't that be something'.

Sam goes to the old arcade and discovers a hidden chamber behind the old Tron arcade games and wiping dust off an interactive keyboard, unwittingly sets off the the laser platform which can digitize real life objects of which was created by Dr Baines for ENCOM (from the first film).

Sam meets up with CLU (Kevin Flynns program from the first film), the interactive program that now has been controlling the program world on ENCOM's mainframe since the destruction of the MCP.

Sam discovers, that his father, a 'user' just like himself has been hiding out and escapes CLU to find him, he must travel a vastly different world of that from 20 years ago and the games are deadlier than ever before. CLU will stop at nothing to stop both Sam and Kevin from leaving the program world.

Trivia - Shooting the film lasted only 64 days. Post-production, due to the heavy special effects, required 68 weeks (wowzers). The original character of Yori / Dr Lora Baines will not reappear in this sequel, even though there is a Facebook page for 'Yori Lives' a campaign by fans for her inclusion.

The First Video Below

This first release video is a concept test that was used to promote an intended sequel for the first film Tron. Obviously with all the talk, interviews and other released videos and information about the movie it was a successful test and got the movie green lit.

This seems to be a new phenomenon arising on the internet, especially on places like YouTube as I have seen the same for a (possible) upcoming remake/reboot of Mortal Kombat (although it turned out that the new Mortal Kombat became a web series rather than a new cinematic movie). It seems if you make a short few minutes of video and it becomes viral on the net, producers start looking at the potential seriously.

A few days ago a short 1:00 clip was shown on Youtube which shows us the character of Quorra, who seems to work for the 'good guys/Flynns team'. Seen here providing assistance to Flynns son Sam. But what is her real agenda and why is she helping Sam?

Before You Go...

Take a look below at the original trailer and although the film is over 25 years old and compared to today's computer generated graphics looks rather ordinary, it is still a cult classic film of the sci-fi genre, and the reason why Legacy is going to be an interesting sequel.

Consider the hype over the course of a year (or longer) that the new film has. When you have seen Traon Legacy, how do you feel it relates to the original? Is it a great follow on or just a 3D graphically hyped up film. Interestingly, this new film may see a remake/reboot, follow on itself...in 20 years.

Tron Legacy & Comic Con news

Daft Punk are on hand and make a cameo in the film. They have also done plenty of the soundtrack for the film and the album will be released two weeks prior to the film release on 12.07.2010.

Here is the first initial release of one of the tracks 'Derezzed', enjoy.

It Just Gets Better And Better

Seeing just below that the 3rd official trailer has hit YouTube and the web at large its getting interesting the small tidbits we get to gleam from each new clip. I feel that this film will be one of the best sci-fi flicks for a long time to come.

I am also predicting that this will be Disney's highest grossing film ever at the US Box Ofiice, out-grossing Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest with 423 Million. Lets go with 477 Million, which if it hits that mark will make it the 4th highest grossing film just behind The Dark Knight.

*** UPDATE !!! ***

At 12:06am, Thursday, Australian Eastern Standard Time, I will get to see this movie and have a booking for the local IMAX screen in 3D, I will be one of the first in the world to watch this much anticipated film, simply due to world time.

* * * * *  The Review  * * * * * *

I booked a ticket a month ago and went to the IMAX in Melbourne with one other friend. We sat in the cinema and once the screen advised us to put on our 3D glasses, we started watching our first impression of Real 3D (3D for IMAX screens).

Firstly if you get a chance, see this film on an IMAX rather than regular cinema screen. The benefit of the IMAX screen is it will fill your entire field of vision. Secondly, if you suffer from motion sickness, do NOT see it on an IMAX, it can make some people feel sickly and disorientated.

The film - A visually stunning and very immersive film. This film is to state of the art and ground-breaking to visual effects what The Matrix was in 1999. The plot......well is a rather time honored standard plot, there is nothing quite new here with the plot.

The film is both a sequel and a stand alone item. If you have never seen the original Tron, it isn't required to enjoy this film. But if you have, you will pick up on all the updated machines and changes in the world and appreciate the new direction that the current film shows us (such as flying machines, which of none were in the first film).

Overall I give this film a 7/10.

I'm really looking forward to this movie - I loved the original, and I'm hoping that this new one will be even better.

Hey Fluff,

I cannot wait myself. Same here, I loved the original and I feel that this new one will deliver as much as the first. This may end up another classic, although we won't know that for 20 years :)

Very cool... thanks for all the clips. I can't wait for it to come out! They say the new kid is a really good actor... glad they didn't cast Justin Timberlake.

Been awaiting the release of this myself since I first came across information that it was being made into a film over 12 months ago. Only 5 weeks more to wait now :)
