The reasons why we avoid things in life is as countless as there are stars in the night sky. We avoid things due to;

- procrastination
- to reduce or remove potential emotionally painful incidents (avoiding conflict)
- to shun away from certain people
- situations if dealt with now will be harsh and unforgiving, not knowing they will be far worse left bottled up and dealt with later in life
- knowing certain things which are pleasant, are not necessarily beneficial (eating much chocolate may be hazardous to our waistline)
